If you're new to CappaData, the matchup cards might look overwhelming at first. This guide walks you through every element so you can get the most out of the platform.
The Header
At the top of every matchup card, you'll see:
Team/Fighter Logos & Names: The two sides of the matchup.
Game Date & Time: When the event takes place.
Sport Badge: Which sport this matchup belongs to (NBA, NFL, NHL, or MMA).
The Pick Section
Cappa Pick
This is the team or fighter our AI model favors. It's displayed prominently with their logo.
Underdog
The opposing side — shown alongside the Cappa Pick for context.
The Metrics Panel
Confidence Score (0–100)
The overall strength of the analytical signal. Higher = stronger data alignment.
Confidence Tier
A quick label — High, Mid, or Low — based on the confidence score.
ACS (Analytical Confidence Score)
A secondary metric that measures how reliable our model considers its own output for this specific matchup. Think of it as the model's self-assessment.
Cappa Edge
The difference between our model's projected probability and the market-implied probability. Displayed with a color-coded label (Strong, Moderate, or Minimal).
Formula Score
The raw output of our AI formula before it's translated into the confidence score. Useful for comparing matchups directly.
The Analysis Section
Grades
Each matchup includes letter-style grades for key performance categories. For NBA, that's Shooting, Defense, Rebounding, and Confidence. For NHL, it's Goaltending, Defense, Offense, and Confidence.
Likely Finish
Our model's prediction for how the game will play out — for example, "Close game, decided in the 4th quarter" or "KO/TKO in Round 2."
Short Reasoning
A one-liner explaining the AI's primary rationale for the pick.
Model Notes
Longer-form notes with additional context, caveats, or interesting data points the model flagged.
Additional Context
Game Pace
Expected pace of the matchup — Fast, Moderate, or Slow.
Competitive Balance
How evenly matched the two sides are.
Market Conviction
How strongly the odds favor one side.
Line Movement
How the odds have shifted since opening.
Tips for Reading Cards
Start with the Confidence Tier — it's the quickest signal.
Check the Cappa Edge — high edge = interesting divergence from the market.
Read the Short Reasoning — understand why the model made its pick.
Review the Grades — they highlight specific strengths and weaknesses.
