Every matchup card on CappaData is powered by our proprietary AI formula — a system that processes market data, statistical indicators, and historical patterns to generate confidence scores and analytical insights.
What Goes Into a Confidence Score?
Our AI formula evaluates multiple data layers for each matchup:
Market Data Analysis: We ingest odds from major bookmakers and track line movements to understand where the market stands on each game.
Statistical Indicators: Team and player performance metrics — shooting efficiency, defensive ratings, pace of play, and more — feed into our models.
Historical Patterns: How have similar matchups played out? Our system looks at head-to-head records, recent form, and situational performance.
From Raw Data to a Score
The formula combines these inputs using a weighted model that produces a confidence score between 0 and 100. Higher scores indicate stronger analytical signals — meaning the data aligns more clearly toward a particular outcome.
Each score is also assigned a confidence tier:
High Confidence (75+): Strong alignment across multiple data points.
Mid Confidence (50–74): Moderate signal with some mixed indicators.
Low Confidence (below 50): Limited data alignment or highly competitive matchups.
The Cappa Edge Metric
Beyond the confidence score, we calculate the Cappa Edge — a proprietary metric that measures the difference between our model's projected probability and the market-implied probability. A positive edge suggests our model sees more value than the market reflects.
Multi-Sport Coverage
This same analytical framework applies across all four sports we cover:
MMA: Fighter stats, odds data, historical finishes, and method-of-victory predictions.
NBA: Team efficiency ratings, pace analysis, competitive balance grades.
NFL: Offensive/defensive matchup grades, line movement tracking.
NHL: Goaltending metrics, shot quality analysis, and pace indicators.
Transparency First
We believe in showing our work. Every matchup card displays the underlying metrics — ACS ratings, grades, edge labels, and model notes — so you can evaluate the data yourself.
